Dr Shannon Simpson and her research team aim to understand the impact of preterm birth on lung health over the life course, conduct interventions that will improve lung health after preterm birth and to explore the mechanisms underpinning lung disease as a result of preterm birth. She has been awarded more than A$2.5 million in research funding, including 2 Australian National Health & Medical Research Council project grants and an NHMRC fellowship, to support this work. She has a growing international reputation in the field and has a number of high impact publications on the long term lung health in survivors of preterm birth, including in The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health.
